There’s no doubt about it, Selena Gomez absolutely SLAYED at the AMAs yesterday when she debuted her new platinum blonde ‘do on the red carpet. The people responsible for making her first public appearance as groundbreaking as the news that she's back with Biebs? Her long-time hairstylists Riawna Capri and Nikki Lee from LA hair salon Nine Zero One.
It was a stark transformation for Selena, who hasn’t strayed far from her natural dark brown locks since the beginning of her career. So when the time came for her dramatic hair transition, her stylists went with a colour that they they've dubbed as “Nirvana Blonde”, and it's definitely as edgy as it sounds.
Sel’s hair was dyed a cool-platinum colour, but rather than dyeing the whole head, Capri and Lee opted to leave a couple of centimetres of dark root untouched. This might not be as clean as a traditional platinum blonde, but hey, the 'do was named after a '90s grunge band! Plus, the remaining dark root ensures that the colour blends seamlessly into her complexion, rather than leaving a stark difference between her darker features and new hair colour.
To top off her magnif transformation, Capri gave Selena’s lob a quick tune up by slightly trimming her ends, because we all know that a transition from brunette from blonde is enough of a bold change.
We have to say, we were pretty SHOOK when Sel stepped out with platinum blonde hair, especially after we thought that her most recent hair transformation was coming in the form of some new choppy bangs. But considering her stylist Capri claimed that Selena’s dye job was “a very patient colour change”, it’s most likely that the bangs were nothing more than your classic wig decoy to hide her gradual transition to a much lighter hair colour.
Very sneaky Selena, but we like it.
