Double cleansing: We’re making a case for washing your face twice

Hear us out.

We’d like to introduce you to a little thing called double cleansing. Before you ask, yes, double cleansing is exactly what it sounds like: washing your face twice.

Have you ever washed your face before going to bed, only to find makeup on your pillow the next day? That’s because one wash doesn’t always do the trick. If you set off for the day wearing sunscreen, primer, foundation, concealer and setting powder – there’s a lot of layers to get rid of.

Enter double cleansing. First, you wash with cleansing oil. Then, you wash with your regular face wash. Voila – c’est perfect!

Basically, the cleansing oil gets in there and removes the top layer of dirt, grime and skin cells. (Gross, we know…) This type of cleanser is gentle on the skin and won’t clog up your pores. Try Natural Instinct Skin Refining Cleansing Oil, $16.49 or Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Oil, $47. Apply the oil to dry skin and massage into the skin before removing with warm water.

Now that you’ve got rid of that icky stuff, your regular cleanser can work more effectively.

Makes sense, right?

Try it and watch your skin improve out of sight! Japanese women have been using this trick for years (and years and years...)
