Maria Luisa Gerardo was getting her nails done at her local salon, TJ Nails in Phoenix, Arizona, when she received a small cut on her finger. Gerardo, who's been going to the salon for more than a decade, has never had an issue before at the establishment. However, in a recent interview with local news station KGUN, said that her finger started to swell a day after this particular nail appointment.
After noticing the swelling, Gerardo went back to TJ Nails. The company offered her $100 in compensation before telling her that it would simply go away if she cleaned her hands and bought medicine. But the injury only got worse. From what began as a small cut on the side of her finger, progressed into a large open wound that went down to the bone.
As it turns out, Gerardo was admitted into the hospital to get surgery because she had a severe infection. There's even the possibility of amputation.
"I cover my face when they come in here and take [the bandage] off because I don't wanna see it," said Gerardo to KGUN. "I don't. I'm scared."
"This is the only thing I ever liked doing to myself, my nails," Gerardo told the news station. "But now, with this that happened to my hand, I never want to do this in my life." Gerardo and her family filed a complaint with the state against the nail salon, and are planning to take legal action so that no one else has to experience this horrific ordeal.
