Beyonce celebrated Lemonade in the most perfect way possible

While everyone was losing their shit after Beyonce dropped Lemonade on the weekend, we couldn’t help but wonder what Queen Bey herself was doing. Popping bottles at a VIP premiere party, or curled up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn?

Well, it was a little bit of both. Beyonce’s mum Tina posted some pics on Instagram that showed their family having some kind of viewing party – but they didn’t toast with champagne. They drank lemonade. Duh.

Since the HBO special aired, we now know what the title Lemonade really means to Beyonce. Towards the end of the visual album there’s a clip that shows Jay-Z’s grandmother Hattie White speaking at her 90th birthday party, where she says:

"I had my ups and downs, but I always found the inner strength to pull myself up. I was served lemons, but I made lemonade."

Bey also references her own grandmother in the film:

“Take one pint of water, add half pound of sugar.
The juice of eight lemons, the zest of half lemon.
Pour the water from one jug, then to the other several times.
 Strain through a clean napkin.
 Grandmother, the alchemist.
You spun gold out of this hard life.
Conjured beauty from the things left behind.
Found healing where it did not live.
Discovered the antidote in your own kitchen.
Broke the curse with your own two hands.
You passed these instructions down to your daughter
. Who then passed it down to her daughter.”

There you have it – the genius of Bey explained.
