Drake must have a calendar alert for Rihanna’s birthday, ’cos he sure remembers when it is, even when he’s on a major tour.
The musician gave a special birthday shout-out to his former on-off girlfriend at his concert at Dublin’s 3Arena on Monday – she turned 29 that day.
“It’s somebody’s birthday today – somebody I have a lot of love for and a lot of respect for,” he told the crowd.
But when you’re Drake and the girl you’re possibly trying to send a message of lurve to is Rihanna, a simple “Happy Birthday” won’t cut it (also, she wasn’t there).
“Instead of singing ‘Happy Birthday,’ though, we just going to do this,” he went on. “We just going to do this in Dublin tonight. Instead of singing ‘Happy Birthday,’ we gon’ set it off just like this. Run it!”
Cue Drake getting into a medley of “Work,” “Take Care” and “Too Good” – three songs he collaborated with Rihanna on.
Drake and Rihanna are basically an unrequited love story. He declared his love for Rihanna to the whole world at the MTV VMAs last year, saying, “She’s someone I’ve been in love with since I was 22 years old. She is one of my best friends in the world…”
And then it was reported months later that they had called it quits – again.
Is this Drake trying to send Rihanna a sign that he wants back in?! He was most recently linked to Jennifer Lopez, but apparently they were only “songwriting” and “hanging out,” and she told Ellen DeGeneres she’s definitely single.
So… Drake? Rihanna? Bring back AubRih?
