Before Georgia Love became Australia’s second Bachelorette, she was a massive fan of the Bachelor and Bachelorette franchises. As someone who’s lived through the experience – and successfully found love at the end – it’s safe to say she’s a pro when it comes to the world of falling in love on TV.
So it was interesting to hear Georgia’s thoughts on Network Ten and Warner Bros’ decision to cast Matty Johnson, the man she left heartbroken in the season finale of The Bachelorette last year, as the lead star of The Bachelor that will air later this year.
“I’ve enjoyed all the earliest seasons when it’s been an unknown, because I enjoy that part of getting to know The Bachelor and The Bachelorettes themselves along the way,” Georgia told The Daily Telegraph. “I’m probably biased because I think they made a pretty good decision in me and I wasn’t already known! I can see why they’ve chosen him, but I would probably like to see a new Bachelorette again this year.”
Hmm, so Georgia’s not up for Nikki Gogan round two (unlike the rest of us).
Of course, Georgia’s been in the position Matty now finds himself in, which is – let’s be real – weird. She added, “Matty is in this position where he was the one who was heartbroken and left going home alone, and there’s always a bit of a risk that he’ll do that to someone else.”
And Georgia has history with Matty – he’s kind of her ex, which she acknowledged when she said, “It’s quite weird for me, because it was not all that long ago that we were in Singapore and on that hotel roof and he was on the show with me.”
After Sam Frost and Richie Strahan, Georgia was the first “fresh” lead we’d been given since Sam Wood, and obviously it was fun getting to know this smart, beautiful, articulate journalist who decided to put her love life before her career for once. And it worked! She dated a bunch of Australia’s most eligible single men and fell in love with Lee Elliott. They’re still together, and making all the pun-filled jokes on their social media accounts.
No word yet on who Ten will cast as the next Bachelorette, and it will be interesting to see if there’s still enough hype around Nikki by then.
