Yesterday, most Australians got together with their families to celebrate Father’s Day. But for many Muslims – including Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik – this past weekend was significant for another reason. It also marked one of the most important holidays on the Islamic calendar: Eid al-Adha.
Over the weekend, Gigi and Zayn spent time with their mums to celebrate Eid al-Adha. Naturally, Yolanda Hadid posted a selfie of the four of them enjoying each others company. Later, Zayn’s mum posted the same picture, with the caption: “Eid Mubarak to everyone... #BlessedDay.”
In June, Zayn spoke to the Evening Standard about being brought up with the Islamic faith: “I’m not currently practicing but I was raised in the Islamic faith, so it will always be with me, and I identify a lot with the culture.”
While Gigi hasn’t spoken publicly about her religious upbringing, her sister, Bella, told Porter: “[Our father] was always religious, and he always prayed with us. I am proud to be a Muslim.”
