After the Met Gala a few weeks back, the whole world was wondering if Hailey Baldwin and Shawn Mendes were dating but, it turns out, while they like each other, they mightn't like like each other, y'know.
ICYMI, the backstory to this goes that over a year ago, there were rumours that Baldwin, 21, and Mendes, 19, were dating after they were reportedly seen holding hands at Baldwin's Halloween party way back in 2017.
Things were assumed serious when, according to US Magazine, the two celebs took a vacay to Toronto, which also happens to be Shawn's hometown. Then, the super hawt duo really began to fan the flames when they rolled up to the Met Gala together as they were announcing to the world they were a thing at the boughiest event in the history of the world.
But, alas, it seems we've all been hoodwinked into thinking that Shawn and Hails are IRL #relationshipgoals.
Even if they did look at each other like this:
And he cuddled her like this:
This time, instead of reading body language and compiling holiday sightings, Hailey has candidly revealed to the UK's Sunday Times that she's single.
"We hang out and he's super-lovely and a very, very nice young gentleman," the model said. "But I am single... The dating pool is small. It's rare to find somebody that has the same ideas and morals as me. I have found people like that before, though, which is refreshing."
And don't worry about Shawn's poor heart being crushed by the news cause few weeks back he was equally as complementary to his Met date while clearing up the fact that he too is currently single.
"I am single," the singer told E! "It was just overwhelming in the most incredible way. I was so lucky for my first time going there to be able to go with someone like Hailey because she's such a vet and I really admire people like her because of how outgoing she is in such an overwhelming experience."
Shawn also made sure to use the word "friend" when describing his outing with Hailey to W Magazine.
"We're really good friends," he said. "It's funny, she's such a pro with this type of stuff. I want it to be amazing for her, so I've been trying for the past 24 hours to be really silly so that she stays on. I'm happy to walk with her—she's amazing."
Welp, that's that, we guess. Just two single mates who didn't want to turn up to the Met Gala alone. We can relate.
