Julia Louis-Dreyfus diagnosed with breast cancer

And we have so much respect for how she announced the heartbreaking news.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus has revealed she's been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The health news reportedly came just a day after her record Emmy win where the actress took home her sixth consecutive Emmy for best actress in a comedy series for her work on Veep.

In a post on Twitter on Thursday the former-Seinfeld star said, "1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I’m the one."

The 56-year-old continued: “The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union. The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let’s fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality.”

The actress' announcement was of course touching on the politics of healthcare in America. Her comments come during a week where Republicans in the US Senate once again tried (and failed!) to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act; a law introduced but the Obama administration which seeks to get more insurance to poorer Americans, as well as those with pre-existing conditions.

The mother-of-two is being praised for selflessly using her diagnosis to help support others, as well as getting well wishes from other celebs.

Much respect JLD, here's to hoping you kick cancer's butt...
