Lena Dunham Met Gala 2017

Lena Dunham’s Met Gala experience was not, er, as ~lit~ as that of some other A-list guests.

While Hollywood stars hung out in the bathrooms of the Metropolitan Museum to take selfies and smoke breaks on Monday, E! News reports that Lena’s time at the Met Gala was cut short and that she was rushed to hospital straight from the event. According to Page Six, she ended up in the emergency room, but was released after a series of tests.

The exact reason for Lena’s rush to hospital hasn’t been revealed, but a source told E! News, “She’s at home resting and doing well. As you know she’s very public about her battles with endometriosis.”

She sure is. She’s written about living with endometriosis in a few of her Lenny Letters, and in a recent edition she said she was “disease-free.” “My [final] surgery went off without a hitch,” she wrote. “When I emerged, cotton-mouthed, [Dr. Randy Harris] told me something I hadn’t expected to hear, maybe ever: there was no endometriosis left. Between my surgeries and hormonal intervention, I was disease-free. That doesn’t mean it can never return, but for now, once my sutures have been removed and my bruises have changed from blue to yellow to green to gone, I will be healthy. All that will remain is my long-term relationship with pain, and it’s time to get real about that.”

Ahead of the Met Gala, Lena shared a bunch of photos on Instagram previewing her look. Lena attended with her fellow Girls showrunner and friend, Jenni Konner, and they were both dressed by Elizabeth Kennedy.

Lena also wrote a super-gushy post about her time at the Met Gala, thanking Vogue magazine for “bringing so much power and passion to the Met, which has always been church to me. It's easy to forget amidst the glitz just how much good this night does, raising millions to preserve essential artifacts and making sure style really is for everyone.”
