Liam Payne dissed 1D in his new song and fans are not coping

WTF Liam?!

One Direction’s Liam Payne has released his first solo song Strip That Down and there’s a line on the track that has some 1D not knowing how to feel.

Cheryl Cole’s 23-year-old baby daddy is the last member of the British pop group to release a solo single and it seems he wants to put as much distance between his new music and his former boy-band career as possible.

Strip That Down dropped on Friday and the verse that has mainly divided fans is:

“You know I used to be in 1D, now I’m out free. People want me for one thing, that’s not me.”

As one fan on Twitter put it, “WTF LIAM PAYNE?”

“Free”… srsly? You were in a multi-million dollar making successful boy band, not JAIL!

But obvi, some fans have found things to love about the song.

Liam’s diss might just be a message about being about to focus on his own artistic expression, rather than compromising with five other tween-idols about lyrics.

While promoting his solo tune the new dad recently told Music Choice that he and bandmate Harry Styles’ musical tastes are so different that Harry’s new song, Sign of the Times isn’t something he’d “listen to”.

“I’ll be honest with you, it’s not my sort of music. It’s not something I’d listen to, but I think he did a great job of doing what he wanted to do. That’s the way I’d put it best, I think,” Payne said.

“I think the funny thing is, [Harry] would say the same thing about me because he doesn’t really listen to hip-hop music, whereas it’s like my song’s more [Tyga’s] Rack City and his song is more of a different era to something I’d listen to, I guess.”
