Halloween is fast-approaching, meaning the hunt for a costume is officially on, even among celebrities. But Riverdale actress, Lili Reinhart has landed in hot water for posting a racially insensitive photo on Twitter as her supposed costume.

The picture in question is from DeviantArt, showing a woman dressed as a ‘demon’, wearing black clothing and black-coloured body paint. Lili accompanied the pic with the caption "Found my Halloween costume!! Inspired by the color of my soul."

Fans had mixed responses to the post, with some saying Lili was encouraging ‘blackface’, while others said her post has been taken out of context.

Either way, Lili has since deleted the comment and posted a series of Tweets apologising for her initial post and any offense she may have caused, writing:

“I did not mean for my tweet to come off that way. I can see how it was interpreted as being insensitive, completely. I saw the pic on a Halloween Instagram and didn't think it would be interpreted as being racially insensitive.”

“I apologize. Never meant any harm. I can see how it could've been misinterpreted.”

Sounds like Lili just made an honest mistake but, as a rule of thumb, if you're ever in doubt, don't paint your faces black - kay?
