Earlier this week, Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale posted a photo from a recent photoshoot on Twitter, and she did not receive the response she probs expected.

The black and white photo of Lucy featured the star rocking slicked down hairs on her face, and tbh was a stunning shot. But her caption rubbed people up the wrong way.

"The time my baby hairs came to good use at a shoot," Lucy wrote.

While Lucy meant no harm with her comments, the hairstyle she was rocking has great historical significance with African-American and Latina women. Often, their unruly baby hairs are brushed out, sometimes styles in elaborate designs, then slicked with gel.

In recent years, the hairstyle has been culturally appropriated and used on white models by the likes of Chanel and DKNY for runway shows.

Katy Perry also came under fire when she wore the hairstyle in her "This Is How We Do" music video, portrayed a caricature of black culture.

Many of Lucy's followers were quick to call her out for dubbing her slicked down bangs as "baby hairs":

Lucy has since deleted the picture and responded to the backlash with a tweet, apologising for her comment:
