The day after news broke Glee star Mark Salling died by apparent suicide, TMZ reports police came across his body accidentally.
The LAPD was reportedly in the area (near a riverbed in the Sunland neighborhood of Los Angeles where Salling lived) working on an unrelated matter when they found him. Because a missing persons report had been filed for him, they were able to run the plates on the car at the scene and confirm it was his, which eventually helped identify the body. It's unclear how long the body was there before authorities found it.
According to PEOPLE, Salling was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is expected to be conducted in the next few days.
Salling was awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography involving a prepubescent minor charges. Though he was expected to be sentenced to four-to-seven years in prison in March, he'd already had to register as a sex offender and begin treatment.
Some of the actor's former Glee co-stars have reacted to his death.
Matthew Morrison played the Glee club's enthusiastic coach Will Schuester. He posted a throwback picture from a photo shoot with Salling and Cory Monteith, who died in 2013 from a toxic combination of heroin and alcohol. His caption was two angel emojis and a sad face emoji. Jenna Ushkowitz, who played Tina on the show, commented with a heart emoji.
