In a frankly disturbing update from the Twitterverse, today Millie Bobby Brown has deactivated her Twitter account after becoming the target of a homophobic meme, which paints her as a discriminatory bully.
Twitter users have began photoshopping pictures of Millie, adding homophobic slurs and comments over the top of her photos and posting the images to their accounts.
As reported by W Magazine, the meme allegedly began in November of 2017 after one Twitter user shared a fictional story about a chance run in with Brown, alongside the hashtag #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown.
"It's time to share my story. one day i saw millie bobby brown in the mall and i asked for a selfie and she said "i don't take selfies with fags, homo sex is sin" and broke my iphone X. i couldn't stop crying i'm so ashamed," they wrote.
The same person later admitted that the Tweet was a joke, though evidently the damage had already been done.
Although this exchange happened toward the end of last year, the #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown tag has resurfaced and gained a significant amount of momentum over the past couple of days, with several new memes and fictional stories being created.
While several twitter users have pointed out how truly damaging these "memes" are, after one user voiced their opinion, they were subsequently shut down and told that is it all a joke.
