The first episode hasn't even aired yet and we're already getting a healthy dose of scandal from this year's contestants on The Bachelor.
Set to premiere its new season on Wednesday August 15, the show is causing its familiar stir after it was revealed a contestant, Cassandra Wood, had previously dated this year's Bachelor, Nick Cummins aka the Honey Badger. The revelation has sparked speculation she was headhunted by producers of the show because of their history.
The 23-year-old recently spoke to TV WEEK about her history with Nick, saying, "We went on a few dates and we got along really well."
In what sounds like the perfect 'guy walks into a bar' situation, Wood explained that she first met Nick at a Manly bar where they connected over mutual friends.
"So we were just always around each other," she said.
But because of the pair's busy schedules, it was always "the wrong timing". Luckily, both of them being on The Bachelor in the same season is prooobably going to fix that little problem.
Cass has already caught the attention of Bachie fans having been a Miss World Australia NSW finalist last year. She's also a casual extra on Home and Away and shares plenty of bikini pics on her Instagram, which already has more than 40K followers.
While it's uncertain whether the show's producers sought out Wood because of her history with The Honey Badger, the accounting-commerce student said she didn't think it gave her an advantage.
"On the first night, I was being asked if I thought it was an advantage, but I had no idea… I thought he might want to get to know the 24 other girls because he already knows me."
This isn't the first time a contestant has arrived at the mansion only to discover they already had history with the bachelor – last year's winner Laura Byrne had crossed paths with Matty Johnson prior to the series being filmed.
Cosmopolitan Australia has contacted Network 10 for comment.
