On the set of Gossip Girl Serena Van Der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf definitely had their ups and downs while hanging out in the Upper East Side. But at the end of the day, their friendship was stronger than anything their crazy lives could throw at them.
Sadly, in real life it looks like Blake Lively and Leighton Meester's friendship hasn't panned out the same. The two actresses have gone their separate ways after working together for five years and don't speak anymore.
"After something of a thaw in their relationship during the final two seasons of Gossip Girl, Leighton and Blake don't speak anymore," an insider has revealed.
"I think it's simply a matter of both of them being happy not to have to spend 18 hours a day with each other, but the friendship they struggled to build at the end of Gossip Girl has evaporated and they continue to stay as far away from each other as possible."
Awkward! They seemed so close on set, we just presumed they'd at least be friendly IRL.
And when Adam Brody and Leighton Meester got engaged last month (happy dance), we just assumed that Blake would be stoked for them. After all, Blake is happily married to Ryan Reynolds now.
But the star didn't reach out to congratulate Leighton at all. A source revealed that Blake: "was absolutely NOT one of the people who called Leighton to congratulate her on her recent engagement."
Ouch! It's a little harsh that Blake didn't even bother to text, right? And we're not the only ones who are disappointed about this news. Another source close to the pair said: "It's really sad because they both know they are role models for younger girls and they don't want their dislike of each other out in the press - they still get bags of letters from the show's fans every week. But the truth is, nobody in Blake's life is urging her to be the bigger woman and patch everything up."
Patch it up?! We so want to know what actually went down...maybe it was a fight of Serena/Blair proportions?!
OK, so maybe we all need to let go of the "Blair and Serena" dream and realise that, just because the characters always worked together, it doesn't mean Leighton and Blake automatically have to be besties (even if we wish they would).
We'll stick to watching re-runs of GG in the meantime...
