Actress Shannon Purser, who has starred in both Stranger Things (#Justice4Barb) and Riverdale, has come out as bisexual, after she got caught up in a Twitter fight with some Beronica shippers.

The 19-year-old originally tweeted out, “Ships are great, being horrible to people who don't ship your ship is not.”

Following that, some fans who thought two of the show’s female leads, Betty and Veronica, should end up together on the show went into attack, accusing both Riverdale and Shannon of ‘queerbaiting’ (a phenomenon where a show/movie/book portrays romantic or sexual tension between two same-sex characters to attract LGBT+ audiences, but doesn’t have the characters get together in the end; 'Johnlock' from Sherlock Holmes and 'Destiel' from Supernatural are often accused of this).

After engaging with the Beronica fans a little more, Shannon then posted this note to her Twitter, which read, “I don’t normally do this, but I figure now is just as good a time as any to get personal. I’ve only just recently come out as bisexual to my family and friends. It’s something I am still processing and trying to understand and I don’t like talking about it too much.”

“I’m very very new to the LGBT community. I have never heard the term ‘queer-baiting’ in my life until today. That being said, I have never ever wanted to alienate anyone and my tweet was thoughtless,” she wrote. “It wasn’t a wise or kind thing to say and I’m disappointed in myself, especially as a Christian who has always been taught to speak love to others.”

Shannon had previously spoken out on her Twitter about anxiety and sexuality.
