Fact: Kanye West is Taylor Swift's public enemy number one thanks to an endlessly long feud that could, frankly, be the subject of a college dissertation. Also fact: Lorde is one of Swift's closer celebrity friends. So is it weird that she covered not one, but two, of his songs during a show in Rosemont, Illinois? You tell us.
Not only did Lorde cover an a cappella version of "Love Lockdown" she sang "Runaway."
To be fair, this isn't the first time she's played Kanye's music on stage—plus, back in 2014 she called him her "idol." And while Taylor's friends are obviously allowed to be into Kanye West's music, fans do tend to read a lot into squad members vocalizing support for people Taylor has ~bad blood~ with. (Need we remind you of Karlie Kloss Swish-Swish Gate?)
FYI, the last time Lorde was asked about Taylor Swift she low-key implied they were no longer close, and then had to backpedal on Twitter, saying:
"Taylor is a dear friend. I love her very much...I've always found people's perception of this 'squad' idea frustrating in the past; it was never some exclusive club or secret society, but a wide circle of people, some of whom I know, and some who I've never met, like most wide groups of friends."
