Who is Ariana Grande?

With Twitter and Instagram followers in the millions, you’d want to learn a thing or two about this actress/singer quicksticks…

Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande might look every bit the sweet 20-year-old she is, what with the colourful bow that always seems to be in her hair and her sweet, ladylike fashion sense. But don’t underestimate her: this girl is fierce. She’s a singer (who’s starred on Broadway) and actress (yep, we’ve got another slashie on our hands, peeps), appearing in Nickelodeon’s hugely popular Victorious and Sam & Cat series.

While the girl can certainly act, we’re kinda happy for her to devote all her time to her singing career from now on. It’s selfish of us, we know, but if you close your eyes while listening to her, she legit sounds like a young, breathy Mariah Carey (seriously, do it) and that’s no easy feat. Miss Grande is fast attracting the attention of music industry heavyweights; she opened for some of Justin Bieber’s Believe tour shows this year (the pair are friends) and fellow singer Demi Lovato recently sang her praises: “She has vocals that are just unbelievable, and I have so much respect for her because she is a true singer. She's someone that I feel like is going to have a long career because of her voice.”

And the good news is, she released her debut album Yours Truly, that she’d been working on for three years, this week. So why did she wait the time it usually takes for other pop-princesses to churn out three or more albums? “I’m a big perfectionist! I’m trying to channel super-confident women like Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey and Beyoncé, because I realized that if you want something, you really have to go for it, just like they do,” she told Seventeen magazine this year.

And it’s her confident, fun attitude that that has scored her legions of followers, or “Arianators”, as they like to be called. Yes, really: they’re even listed in the Urban Dictionary as, “a person who adores or admires… Ariana Grande”. And these guys are mad about her, if you type any variant of the “Arianator” hashtag into Instagram or Twitter, hundreds of thousands of results pop up – yep, the girl’s got a fan base.

And the singer is further cementing herself in the Pop Hall of Fame with her latest squeeze, UK boy band The Wanted’s Nathan Sykes. The pair hit it off when recording a duet for the Mortal Instruments: City of Bones movie soundtrack. Nathan recently tweeted: “On another note, I’m the happiest I have been in my life in sooo long and I’m so grateful that everyone is being nothing but supportive.” We bet you are buddy; she’s a catch!

So, are you fast becoming an Arianator too?
