We’re totally all for Twitter banning users who throw around nasty hate speech, but their latest ban has people furious – and with good reason.
Basically, user @themoodforluv has claimed that the site has permanently barred her after she made a relatively harmless comment about Taylor Swift.
"No offence, but is Taylor Swift ever gonna grow out of her 'I wrote your name in my burn book' phase? She's a grown a** woman," she wrote.
Well, after the tweet went viral with over 124,000 likes and 30,000 retweets, it looks like some people weren’t too chuffed over the user’s opinion on the blonde babe, as she soon received an email from the platform saying she had been banned for "violating the Twitter rules...specifically our rules around participating in targeted abuse." Her account will not be restored.
"I had Taylor fans in my mentions for days, and I'm assuming they're the ones who reported me because that's the only tweet of mine that got 'negative' backlash, even though most people agreed with me," she told Buzzfeed. “I can’t think of any reason why, honestly."
She also revealed she’s contacted Twitter for an explanation, to no avail.
Now, we can understand why people would be banned for abuse and hate speech, but in the grand scheme of things, this seems pretty unfair. In fact, even Taylor’s own fan base has started voicing their support for the banned user.
A rep for Twitter declined to comment on the sitch, saying that the company will not comment on individual accounts.
