Zac Efron tried really, really hard to do an Australian accent for his new movie

There’s been some pretty terrible attempts by non-Australian actors to master our unique accent – Quentin Tarantino in Django Unchained probably being the worst. Soz, Tarantino.

Zac Efron was tasked with the challenge for just one scene in upcoming comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, and while it’s not flawless, it’s not terrible.

As you’ll see in the below clip, when he says “Why, yes I do” it could barely even be considered an Aussie accent, but in the next line “I only drink my particular brand and you will not convince me otherwise”, he effing nails it, mate. Bloody oath, he does.

Ahem.

Ahead of his visit Down Under next week (yaaaaaassss), Zac didn’t sound overly confident when he spoke to News.com.au about it.

"Hopefully I didn’t screw up too bad. It’s a very difficult accent and I have a lot of respect for people that can do it well ... and for Australia. So I don’t want to mess it up.

"But for the sake of comedy I will give it my best shot."

Lol, Zac. You kind of did mess it up a bit. But that’s okay, we still think you’re a bloody ripper and a top bloke. G’day. Vegemite. Koalas. Etcetera.
