Demi Lovato has long had a complicated relationship with food, having struggled with an eating disorder since she was very young.
In her YouTube documentary Simply Complicated, she revealed that it's a struggle she still deals with when she confessed to her manager that she relapsed with throwing up, binging, and purging over the summer.
But now, Demi -- who once shared a rather shocking 'before and after' eating disorder picture -- has come to an empowering and inspiring decision about her food habits: She's quitting dieting.
In a tweet posted this afternoon, Demi revealed her decision, explaining that the stress that came with depriving herself of the food she wanted wasn't healthy for her and wasn't setting a good example for her fans.
"No longer depriving myself of treats (in moderation)," Demi wrote in her tweet. "I'm not gonna lie, I put on a couple lbs since I've given up dieting BUT I've given up the chronic stress of what I eat because I don't want to set that example for my fans. No more food shaming myself!!"
What an amazing message Demi is sending to fans. When you're on a diet, you constantly have to think about the food you're eating and deprive yourself — two things that aren't exactly conducive to having a good relationship with your body and food. Demi is sending a message that it's okay to eat and enjoy food and that your health and worth aren't defined by your weight.
