TRIGGER WARNING: This story contains themes some readers may find upsetting.
There has always been a hell of a lot of debate around whether the Kardashian family are body positive advocates or a bad influence on an impressionable younger generation. Things then get even blurrier when certain members of the family strip off on social media or are accused of being hyper sexual online, but there's one thing that we're sure everyone can agree on: The Kardashian family fucked up today.
If you happened to tune in to Kim Kardashian West's Instagram Stories in the last 24 hours, you will have been presented with a cute scene of Kim, Khloé and Kendall (and good pal, Malika) getting ready for a charity poker night together.
While this may have seemed innocent, the conversation quickly took a nasty turn when the fam focussed on Kim's body and how small she was looking. Whilst complimenting your family members on a healthy body change isn't criminal, the phrasing that the Kardashian/Jenner squad used was not good at all.
Here's a play-by-play of what went down:
"My purse is as tiny as you," Kenny joked before Kim exclaimed, "Oh my God the compliments!"
KimK then casually dropped the details of her actual weight, stating that she was around 119lbs — which translates into about 54kg — but she was quick to remind her fam that she's even less without her hair extensions.
When she was showered with yet another flurry of compliments, Kim batted them away, saying, "You guys, I'm not that skinny!" before Khloé hit back with classic dose of KoKo sass, saying, "Kimberly I can literally see through you!"
However the real shit-storm hit when Khloé very untactfully said this:
Kendall also dropped the comment, "I'm really concerned, I don't think you're eating. You look so skinny". To which Kim gleefully replied with an ear-piercing squeal saying, "Whaaaat?! OMG thank you!!"
Not cool, guys, not cool. You can watch the clips of Khloe and Kenny 'complimenting' Kim here:
This video was originally taken from Kim Kardashian West's Instagram Story.
Khloé's long-time best mate, Malika Haqq, also jumped on this very questionable bandwagon saying that Kim survives on a diet of "celery" and "different flavours of oxygen".
Making light of something as serious as anorexia — which is a bona fide mental health issue which has huge physical ramifications for sufferers — is not on, and frankly we expect better from a group of influential women like the Kardashians.
Combined, the family has over 482 million followers on Instagram alone, meaning this message was spread a lot further than their jovial family catch up at home.
While Kim, who originally posted the videos, may not have thought about the impact of their content on the rest of the world, she must do now because of the rage hurling towards her from Twitter RN.
None of the Kardashian family have issued an apology for what was said today, but the original videos have been deleted from Kim's account. It seems that'll be the only justice served for now.
