We took on the delicious task of finding them…

Australia’s best bacon & egg rolls

Queensland: A bacon and egg roll is the top brekkie choice for almost 40 per cent of Queenslanders, and sales of McDonald’s Bacon & Egg McMuffin are higher in the Sunshine State than the national average. It’s love!

Try it: Grub St, 440 Samford Rd, Gaythorne, Qld. A weekend breakfast queue is the norm, but they have their mean bacon and egg burger all day.

New South Wales: Last year, Sydneysiders were able to treat themselves to a $120 bacon and egg roll, made by chef Colin Fassnidge to mark Australian Bacon Week. Duck egg cooked in truffle butter, roasted foie gras, and a crème fraîche and caviar dressing were just a few of its delish ingredients. Fancy.

Try it: Orange Grove Farmer’s Market, 2-8 Perry St, Leichhardt, NSW. The bacon and egg roll is a local fave.

Tasmania: Home to Eggs and Bacon Bay. Seriously! It’s said to be named after a governor’s wife who once served bacon and eggs here.

Try it: The B&E roll from Barista Sista pop-up café feeds thousands of festival folk at Marion Bay’s Falls Festival.

South Australia: The Barossa Farmers Market has, what could be, Australia’s most loved, locally made bacon and egg roll. Made with locally baked rolls, free-range eggs, free-range bacon, and some homemade chutneys and pickles on top. Yum!

Try it: Another top pick is the burger-style B&E at East Terrace Continental, 6 East Terrace St, Adelaide, SA.

Victoria: Celeb chef Heston Blumenthal’s restaurant The Fat Duck is temporarily relocating from the UK to Crown in Melbourne for six months in February 2015. And he’s bringing his signature bacon and egg ice-cream dish with him. It’s a “try before you die.”

Try it: Cumulus Inc at 45 Flinders Lane, Melbourne, Vic, is a Good Food Guide hat winner (five years in a row!), and not for nothing. Have a 65/65 egg (poached at 65 degrees for 65 minutes) with their smoked bacon bap.

Western Australia: Perth Now reported that Australia is the 15th most expensive place to get a club sandwich (the B&E’s fancy cousin); the average cost being $18.10. Yikes.

Try it: Greenhouse Perth, at 100 St Georges Terrace, Perth, WA. Order
the 62-degree eggs on sourdough with a side of nitrate-free bacon. No joke, it will change your world.

Northern Territory: Try it: Roma Bar, 9 Cavenagh St, Darwin, NT. It’s a hotspot for locals and tourists who come for the bacon and egg toastie and top-notch coffee.

ACT: Try it: Brodburger, 11 Wentworth Ave, Kingston, ACT, serves an original bacon and egg roll late into the night.
