After months of speculation, it's been confirmed that actor Donald Glover will be playing Simba in the highly-anticipated live-action remake of The Lion King.

The exciting news was announced by the film's director, Jon Favreau, who also directed the 2016 blockbuster hit, The Jungle Book.

“I just can’t wait to be king. #Simba,” he wrote, alongside a photo of Donald.

Not long after, Favreau announced that James Earl Jones will be reprising his role as Mufasa, 22 years after the original animated film.

Very little is known about the film, except that it will be a "re-imaging" of the 1994 flick.

Stay tuned for updates!

You know what they say, good things come in threes. With Sex and the City possibly returning to our TV screens, and rumours that a Twilight sequel may also be in the works, now the trinity of our most-anticipated comebacks is complete and we’re BEYOND excited.

Here's the news you've been waiting nearly twenty years for: Walt Disney Studios and director Jon Favreau have just confirmed that a remake of The Lion King is officially on the way.

Not only that, but it seems even the Disney execs are equally excited and have decided to fast-track the film into production ('cause priorities, right?).

The modern remake will be made in a similar vein to the Beauty and the Beast live action reboot, joining the group of other mega-successful Disney films such as Cinderella, The Jungle Book and Maleficent, 're-imagined' for a modern audience.

While it's still early days, with no news yet on which actors are going to take part in the production, we're already keen AF for this movie.

Cue: Happy dances all round.
