Sometimes, you just want to read about someone throwing a party for a rescued animal well on the way to rehabilitation. But California resident Darcy Smith's version of this "Awww" narrative is certainly a new take: The animal lover threw a gender reveal party for a recently-rescued four-month-old chicken she'd lovingly named Funky Chicken.
Smith first began posting cute snaps and videos of Funky on a Facebook page, but as fans flocked to coo over the chicken, who'd been recovering from malnourishment at the Sacramento SPCA, they also wanted to know how to address Funky: As a rooster or a hen?
Which led Smith to (adorably) explain in a recent interview with Inside Edition, "You don’t know until later [if] they’re either going to ‘cock-a-doodle-doo’ or lay an egg."
On Wednesday, Smith filmed the gender reveal, and...
Funky's a lil boy! But Smith made sure her entire crew of chickens got to participate in the revelries:
Look. Gender reveal parties aren't everybody's cup of tea, but this is probably the best possible use of the idea. Long live Funky Chicken and his clearly adorable and sheltering home. Or as Smith puts it, "I hope by posting Funky and his videos and how sweet it is, that it will bring awareness to adoption and rescue of animals of all kinds. There are so many animals out there that need a home."
