Finding out whether someone is a narcissist or not, is just as simple as finding out if someone likes chocolate.
Just ask them.
According to a new study, all you need to do is say four simple words, ‘are you a narcissist?’, because a narcissist is likely to answer ‘yes’.
The co-author of the study and a professor of communication and psychology at The Ohio State University, Doctor Brad Bushman, explained, "It's pretty cool actually, because narcissists aren't afraid to tell you they're narcissistic.”
"If you ask people whether they have casual sex or take drugs, they're not likely to be honest with you. But narcissists just aren't ashamed of their narcissism... and they'll tell you so."
Which, when you think about it, makes TOTAL sense.
Dr Bushman went on to explain that more and more people will now be answering ‘yes’ to that question, because social media (that thing we're all obsessed with) fuels narcissism.
"In today's digital age, when anyone can broadcast themselves to the world, narcissism is becoming more of a problem. Social media is absolutely related to narcissistic behaviour," he continued.
“I've been studying aggression for about 30 years, and I've seen that the most harmful belief that a person can have is that they're superior to others. When people believe they're better than other people, they act accordingly.”
He’s hoping more research will give us all insight into where narcissism stems from and therefore the best way we can eliminate it.
That sounds like quite the task.
