Made with love

A Dutch designer has knitted her own dream guy. You NEED to see this...

Sleeping alone can have its perks – hello, lying diagonally – but sometimes it’s nice to have a good spoon. But what if you want the hugs but not the dramas of a real-life boyfriend? We don’t know many guys that are up for playing occasional Sunday BF (required for cuddles only), so short of getting a bunch of cats to lie in the shape of guy, we were low on options for a no-strings-attached bedtime snuggle. Until now! Lucky for you, innovative Dutch illustrator and designer Noortje de Keijzer has actually knitted herself a bed buddy, complete with stubble and nipples. Maybe if you ask nicely she will make you one too?!

Once you have the guy’s, erm, knitted “shell” you just need to stuff your Knitted Boyfriend with a pillow and he’s ready to go - bring on the hugs. So what made the creator swear off real men and turn to wool for comfort instead? Describing her project, de Keijzer sounds like a romantic who’s been burned just a little:

“My Knitted Boyfriend is a cushion with a story. A cushion with a personality. A cushion to kiss! Or, well… to cuddle, to caress, to hug, and to smile with. Because this man is always happy. And he is flexible as well. He will have a mustache if you prefer mustaches. He will wear glasses if you prefer glasses.” We don’t know about you, but it sounds quite stressful having to create your perfect man: facial hair, no facial hair, preppy style verses jock… too many decisions!

So what does de Keijzer’s ideal man like to do all day? “He likes to sit on your floor, on your couch or at you dinner table. But most of all he likes to lay down next to you in bed. With your head on his chest and his arms wrapped around you. This way you will never feel alone ever again. With this man you can be sure, he will never leave you,” says the artist. We can’t say that “trapping” a man so he never leaves us is in our top 10 must-have qualities for a potential BF.

Not content with just one knitted man in her life, the creator has actually designed two – dark-skinned Steve (who apparently is a little camera-shy) and light-skinned Arthur (shown in the pics). So yes her beaus are machine-washable, but there are still a few essentials old Mr Knit is missing – conversation, anyone!

But, judging by the video, below de Keijzer thinks her “man” is more than just a knit though, apparently he actually COMES ALIVE overnight so they can enjoy a bunch of couple-y activities together, like watching movies and having romantic brekkie.
