PSA: ‘Riverdale’ is re-casting a MAJOR character for season 2

By Natasha Harding

If, like us, you’re absolutely OBSESSED with ‘Riverdale’ (and, let’s be honest, the show's main man KJ Apa), then news that the show has been confirmed for a second season is like music to your ears.

But now it seems there’s gonna be one BIG change next season, and it’s to do with one of your favourite cast members.

The show’s producers just revealed that Archie’s enemy (Arch-nemesis even, geddit?), Reggie, is going to be played by someone else next season, citing ‘scheduling issues’ as the reason for the re-cast.

ICYMI the actor who plays Reggie, Ross Butler, is also front and centre in the other Netflix show we’re all binge-watching RN, 13 Reasons Why which, rumour has it, is about to be confirmed for a second season as well.

“We love what Ross did with the role of Reggie [this season], but because of his commitments to other projects, we couldn’t use him nearly as much as we would have liked,” series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told TVLine.

“[Next season], we want more Reggie on our show — he’s Archie’s rival! — and because Ross is unavailable to come back to Riverdale, we’re looking for a new Reggie.”

“Those are big shoes to fill, but we’re confident we can find an actor who is as funny and sexy as Ross. And of course we all wish Ross the best,” Aguirre-Sacasa continues.

In short, it sounds like Ross chose 13RW over Riverdale, which has us like:

As for the rest of season 1? Welp, looks like we’re in for yet another bombshell.

Lochlyn Munro (who plays Betty Cooper’s dad, Hal) said Jason Blossom’s killer will be revealed sooner than you think.

“We find out who killed Jason Blossom in episode 12,” Munro told the Gold Coast Bulletin, before adding, “my character also has a really big secret come out in episode 12.”

Does that mean Hal killed Jason? Was he really that pissed about Polly? I thought we already went through this? SO. MANY. QUESTIONS.

All that’s left to do now is set our reminders for two week’s time, when the final ep airs on Netflix.
