We hope your dog is potty trained ‘cause this Friday is Take Your Dog To Work Day

Yes, it’s a real day — just go with it.

Forget Christmas, New Year's Eve and even our birthdays — this Friday, June 22, is the best day of the year. Why? Well, in case you haven't heard, it's International Take Your Dog To Work Day.

Tell yer boss! Better yet, cc the entire office and let them know. Wait, no — cc the whole company!

If you think we are using Take Your Dog To Work Day as an excuse to spend the day skiving, playing fetch and generally fawning over cute-as-hell pupperinos, you are absolutely correct. However, there are numerous benefits to having dogs around at work.

According to Petbarn Area Manager Emily Dwyer, doggos have a calming influence in the office and can reduce overall stress levels. "Playing with or petting an animal is shown to increase a person's levels of the stress reducing hormone oxytocin and decrease production of the stress hormone, cortisol," she said.

While Take Your Dog To Work Day should be compulsory, whether or not your workplace embraces the initiative is up to your boss. Check with your manager to make sure it's a go. If it is, Petbarn experts suggest packing a doggy bag for the day, including their bed, blanket, water, snacks and a toy.
