Alexis Bledel's new show The Handmaid's Tale looks absolutely insane

It’s a long way from Star’s Hollow.

This week we learned that Alexis Bledel, who’s played Rory Gilmore more for so long we sometimes forget they’re actually two different people, has landed her first major television role since Gilmore Girls: The Handmaid’s Tale.

The show, which stars Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss, is based on the classic book by Margaret Atwood of the same name, and tells the story of a fictional world where women have been forced into being sex slaves to procreate to combat a shrinking population problem. Yeah, it’s pretty messed up.

Now the first trailer for the show is here, and it’s even creepier and more dramatic than we’d imagined … Alexis looks like Hannibal Lecter, for chrissakes!

The Handmaid’s Tale is going to be on Hulu in the US. No word yet on which network is picking up the show in Australia, but you can be sure that when we know, you’ll know.
