9 ways to make a long distance relationship work

  1. Set a regular Skype time every day. It might sound clingy, but it works. If one of you can't make it at that time, you can make it work the next night. Plus, you don't spend time during the day wondering when you’re going to hear from them.
    1. Don't talk for more than an hour at any given time. That way, you've left some things to talk about the next time you speak. If the convo does get dull, cheer up by planning your first day together again after being apart.
    2. Experts agree that LDRs work better between people in similar financial situations. Alternate who visits who by splitting the bill no matter who hops the plane, train, etc. And as the travelling itself is pricey, keep your spending down by cutting back on expensive activities during your visits, and contribute to travel funds instead of buying gifts.
    3. Set limits. “You need a time limit on how long you’re willing to be apart,” says relationship expert Wendy Walsh. A LDR has more chance of working if there’s an end goal in sight, so set a date with your man for when you will start house-hunting or sending resumes in each other’s city.
    4. Don't underestimate the power of the flirty pic. Keep things sexy, over text, the phone, and webcam. It will never be the same as in real person of course, but it's a great reminder of what you two have to look forward to the next time you see him.
    5. Distract yourself. There will be days where one of you is busier than the other. If you find yourself in a lull while your guy is out somewhere having a blast, hit the gym or call a friend for a manicure. It will take your mind off of missing him.
    6. Send each other cute, funny, or sexy love notes. Not emails - real mail, people! You don't have to send pages and pages of love letters, just something short and sweet. Etsy is a great place to find creative cards. The surprise of old school mail is guaranteed to put a smile on their/your face.
    7. Behold, the We-Vibe 4 Plus sex toy, complete with Bluetooth and designed specifically for long-distance couples!
    8. Set up a calendar that counts down to your next reunion. Sounds basic, but it will help with the inevitable missing him. There are heaps of good countdown apps, just visit the App Store.
