Happy Mardi Gras, everyone!

Sure — Sydney's Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras may be be over for another year, but we're not ready to stop celebrating just yet.

On Saturday night, over 200 floats shimmied their way up Oxford Street, bringing Sydney to a standstill and shining a much needed light on the issues affecting LBGTQI people both in Australia and around the world. Gay icon — slash absolute QUEEN — Cher joined in the celebrations as part of the Qantas float, before performing at the after party later in the night. In our books, every single Mardi Gras is important. But there's no doubt that this year was particularly special: It marked the first Mardi Gras since same-sex marriage was (finally!) legalised in Australia.
