It' scary how much of a grip drug addiction can have on a person, and these before and after photos of U.K.-based Amie Heller certainly illustrate it.
The 30-year-old nurse, who's also a mother of one, got so deep into her addiction that she began stealing medication from the hospital she worked at, so she could sell it and use the money to fund her own cocaine habit, reports METRO.
Heller recently admitted to stealing and illegally supplying others with zopiclone, tramadol, dihydrocodeine and codeine during her case at Preston Crown Court. She has been sentenced to three years and eight months in prison as a result of her crimes.
In her police mug shot, it's obvious just how much damage the drug had done to her.
The court heard how Heller had used cocaine with her friend, Jake Lloyd-Haydock, who was also standing trial for his role in the misdemeanours. Lloyd-Haydock reportedly facilitated drug deals by providing Heller with drugs to sell to people she knew, and in exchange he gave her a discount on her own supply.
As well as this, Heller was also selling the prescription drugs as a means of raising more cash, evidenced by a series of texts police found on her phone from people asking her to supply them with drugs they'd normally only be able to get from their doctors.
In a particularly disapproving ruling, the court's Judge Robert Altham told Amie: "You, Heller, need to understand medical professionals stealing drugs from hospitals cannot be tolerated. It strikes at the very heart of the business of health care. Something you were there to promote.
"You were responsible for diverting drugs that needed to be dished out in a regulated way for people's health and safety and you were putting them into an unregulated distribution. You have abused a position of trust to steal drugs from people who were genuinely ill."
