Cooper Cronk and Tara Rushton

If you’re not into NRL, the name Cooper Cronk probably doesn’t mean much to you, but if you’re a rugby fan, you’ll know he’s one of the best and most decorated rugby players Australia’s ever had.

Which is why the announcement he made on Tuesday night is a BIG DEAL. At a press conference, the rugby player, who’s played Halfback for the Melbourne Storm since 2004, announced he is leaving the club at the end of the season to be in Sydney with his fiancée, Fox Sports presenter Tara Rushton.

That’s right — he’s putting his hardworking fiancée ahead of his career, so she can still work in Sydney.

“Sometimes there’s more to life than football,” he said at the press conference. “I’m jealous of the guys who have their families here, that have their loves ones, that have football in the same city. Unfortunately — or fortunately, whichever side you sit on — it’s time for me to try and prioritise my time and my future, and that’s this announcement today.”

He went on about how hard Tara has worked to get to where she is today: “She loves Melbourne, but the funny thing is, she’s worked really hard to get where she is. We’ve had a thousand discussions of the possibilities of things, but… I’m not about to ask her, or force her, to give up what she’s worked so hard for, and I think I’m in a position to sacrifice what I’ve done. I’d be more than willing to sacrifice anything I’ve done for our relationship going forward in the future.”

Cooper’s decision to move to Sydney has obviously got Sydney club bosses in a tizzy because pretty much everyone wants him. But he’s unsure if he even wants to play for a 15th season.

“I actually don’t know whether I want to play on next year,” he told Fox Sports. At the press conference he also said, “There’s a few things in life that are more important than football, like family, getting married and a future.”

BLESS HIM! And ladies — get you a man.
