Instagram's new screenshot alerts are one step closer to uncovering your level of creepdom

~ "No, I don't screenshot all of your stories, whuuuut...?!" ~

PSA y'all: Instagram is apparently in the process of updating the app so notifications are sent to users anytime someone screenshots their stories.

Similar to what IG rival Snapchat already does when someone takes a screenshot of a snap you send, be it individually or part of your story, the photo sharing platform will now flag your highly-engaged friends, aka: social media stalkers.

According to the Twittersphere, those who have the latest beta drop of the app appear to be getting a message when they open the app saying: "Next time you take a screenshot or screen recording, the person who posted the story will be able to see."

To make it clear who took a lil' sneaky pic, a little shutter logo appears next to the name of those who screenshot.

In a statement provided to TechCrunch, Instagram said of the change, "we are always testing ways to improve the experience on Instagram and make it easier to share any moment with the people who matter to you."

The change has not yet been rolled out to everyone as Insta is likely seeing what impact a feature like this can have on users engagement on the app. Our guess... deep friggin' impact.
