Malcolm Turnbull caught on tape roasting the living f*ck out of Trump, is more relatable than ever

#Same, TBH.

Malcolm Turnbull.

Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull has been caught on tape mocking U.S. President Donald Trump with what can only be described as a pretty spot-on impression.

Turnbull attended the Mid Winter Ball in Canberra last night, where he partied down with a bunch of journalists and politicians. Traditionally the Mid Winter Ball is an off-the-record gig, meaning that what happens at the Ball, stays at the Ball, but Nine's Political Editor Laurie Oakes decided that he DGAF and leaked some recordings anyway.

In one, Turnbull can be heard doing an impression of Trump talking about Russia and 'fake polls', saying:

Take a listen:

Turnbull has since responded to the leak, saying that his impersonation was a "good natured roast" (the kind of good natured roasts that casually accuse a world leader of rigging an election, NBD) and that it was "light-hearted, affectionately light-hearted".

He told 3AW: "It's a breach of protocol, it's a breach of faith and all those things, but it's light-hearted, affectionate, good natured."

"The butt of my jokes was myself. It was fun, we've got to lighten up."

The U.S. Embassy also issued a little statement saying that they were not offended by the remarks. "We understand that last night's event is equivalent to our own White House Correspondents' Dinner. We take this with the good humour that was intended."

No word yet on how Trump will take the "good natured roast", but we're sure we'll see on Twitter soon enough.
