One week after revealing that she had recorded a “breezy” new love song for fiancé Liam Hemsworth, Miley Cyrus has officially released that song, “Malibu.” The dreamy beach theme dropped Thursday, along with the most gorgeous video. The single is the first off an upcoming album Miley has been working on. It still doesn’t have a title, but my money’s on something inspired by her relationship and recent transformation into what Billboard calls “New Miley," a Miley that is "completely clean" these days, and completely in love.
As Miley revealed earlier this week, the cover art for the single, which features Miley wearing a cream-colored sweater and yes, her engagement ring while relaxing on a pretty patch of grass, was taken by none other than Liam.
Of her decision to make Liam the subject of “Malibu,” Miley previously told Billboard that she wanted to take back control from the public. “They’re going to talk about me if I come out of a restaurant with Liam. So why not put the power back in my relationship and say, ‘This is how I feel’?” In the interview, she added that the couple “had to refall for each other” after being apart for a few years. Last October, Miley confirmed that the two are indeed engaged again.
"Malibu" will make its TV debut May 21 when Miley performs the love song at the Billboard Music Awards. Fingers crossed the camera will pan to Liam for the moment he tears up and mouths, "That's my girl"/"I love you"/"Vegemite."
In the meantime, let your heart swell over Liam's repost of this clip from the "Malibu" video.
