Common flirting dogma recommends tip-toeing around talking about sex, especially with people you've just met. You're supposed to be coy, cute, flirty, but never outright vulgar or explicit. But eff that. Why not just say what's really on our minds?
Sure, guys on Tinder had responded pretty normally to Carrie Bradshaw's and Rachel Green's best lines, but I was curious to see how they'd respond to the polar opposite: Samantha's best quotes from Sex and the City. How would 12 strangers on a dating app react to sound bites from TV's favorite sexpert? Would I be drowning in dates after throwing boundaries out the window and diving in headfirst with the most explicit lines? Spoiler: nah.
1. This Guy Who Nearly Foiled My Plans
2. This Guy Who Clocked Me
Any guy who admits to being a fast Googler and casual fan of SATC is actually my dream dude.
3. This Guy Who Was Totally On To Me but Then He Wasn't?
The takeaway here is that if you correct a guy with enough gumption (aka one asterisk), he might forget how Google told him your opening line was actually a TV quote. Confidence, ladies! It's everything!
4. The Guy With a French Bulldog in His Profile
Yeah, I'd probably do hand stuff to hang out with a cute french bulldog. Bummer.
5. This Woke Bae
His profile indicated he was super political but no response to this yet!
6. This Guy Who Just Wanted to See the World Burn
Whatever, don't help.
7. This Sweetie
8. This Guy Who Just Wanted to Help Me Exact Revenge
Sure, maybe it was a reach for me to drop that line, but it was so iconic I just couldn't keep it in!
9. This Guy Who Couldn't Get My Name Right?
Names that both end in A ... I get it.
10. This Complimenter
I even threw in a kissy emoji (technically against the rules since Samantha Jones never used emojis) and didn't even get a response! The worst!
11. This Extremely Selfless Man
Thank you, I think I'm extremely 'ssxy' too.
12. This Carrie
He had a joke about being a "total Carrie" in his bio, but little did he know I was actually a total Samantha.
The experiment was probably one of the more fun ones I've done. Samantha had some great bits and the "just caught my man cheating" line turned out to be a great starting off point. No word on whether or not anyone will actually wanna meet up with me once they find out I'm no longer a 45-year-old horny publicist, but who knows.
