Grab your girlfriends, bikinis and beach towels… welcome to the new GC, baby!
There's a reason the 60th annual TV Week Logie Awards moved to the Gold Coast this year… nobody does glitz quite like the GC! If you're anything like us, the last time you visited you were probably snapping selfies with Batman at Warner Bros. Movie World or hungover after a wild night at Schoolies. But as Cosmo found out on a girls' trip away, just like us, the Gold Coast is all grown up and it's seriously chic!
It's easy to be enticed by Instagram's annual Euro spam, but let us be the first to tell you that the Gold Coast is where it's at. You'll get the sizzling sun, balmy afternoons and a coastline that won't quit, for a fraction of the price! #winning
Where to stay…
The Gold Coast offers something for everyone! Whether you're travelling with the fam, or getting away with the girls, you won't be disappointed. Cosmo checked into the GC's hottest new addition, The Star. With cloud mattresses, an infinity pool, decadent dining and all the five-star fun in the world, you won't want to leave! But only you will, because The Star is opposite Pacific Fair Shopping Centre, aka the best shopping mall in Australia. It's literally a resort in itself — all you need is a cocktail! The centre boasts more than 400 stores and just about every designer name you can think of — oh, and a giant Kmart too, so don't sweat!
Where to Eat…
The Gold Coast is booming with delicious options! Try these:
Situated in the stunning Darling precinct of The Star, this restaurant offers breathtaking views and sumptuous seafood with a modern Mediterranean vibe (try the Rock Lobster Bolognese or the Patagonian Toothfish!)
Perfect for: a boujee birthday celebration or the perfect second date (too gorgeous for a potentially crappy first date).
Serving up some of the freshest seafood options and all your classic Greek faves, you'll be leaving with your jeans a little tighter. #noregrets Don't leave without trying the Saganaki or the lamb, but their fried zucchini had us fighting over the last one... trust us they're that good!
This place puts the F in 'fun!' The only thing better than the amazing food options here, is the cool vibe! From the minute you walk in you can tell you're in for a good time. Make your way up to the rooftop for the total GC experience, the fresh sea breeze and lounge area make for the ultimate Friday night chill spot. What sets this place apart from the rest is that you're spoilt for choice when it comes to the menu — take your pick from Mexican, Asian fusion, Italian, American and Modern Oz. So yes, if you have to ask, we did eat Chicken Karaage Bao and the best cheesy gnocchi in one sitting.
The GC is known for its healthy way of living — just look outside and you'll see the green smoothies, yoga mats and almost everyone jogging. That's what makes BSKT the best Sunday brunch option on the GC — they've got all the healthy, vegan, and gluten-free options your heart desires, but a killer sides menu so you can add all the crispy bacon in the world!
What to do…
Go boating! Sailing in Paradise offers two-hour Sunset Cruises, two to three hour day cruises and private charters on their two beautiful 11-metre sailing catamarans. Meaning, you can literally lie down as you sip prosecco and chow down cheese to the GC's iconic sunset! It's perfect for day charters, birthdays, hens' parties and cute family getaways.
If you're anything like team Cosmo, you're currently obsessed with candles and crystals because manifestation is life! The Village Markets at Burleigh State School is your one-stop destination for the coolest fashion finds, street eats and live music. The markets have an eclectic, artsy vibe, and are the perfect way to spend your weekend in the Sunshine State. Special mention: you'll run into some of the cutest dogs you've ever seen, so be prepared to squeal!
